October 2021 Blog Status

A little delayed, but here is the latest monthly status…

October recovered most of the dip from September’s drop, where it did not do so in 2020, so that’s good. It would probably have been better if I had not lost Internet access towards the end of the month. This little thing about the bill not getting paid… (you can always help me in restoring it by buying my books, naturally!) The automated posts I had set up let me take a few days off of social media, but I’m not going to my local Starbucks to use their WiFi on a regular basis. I swear they’ve removed all of the comfortable chairs they used to have. Anyway, let’s hope November proves to be better still.

Blog Status — June 2021

Traffic to the blog declined in June, even while sales were up at Smashwords to the highest level since July of 2019, due to a new book being released. We’ll see if this year’s Smashwords Summer/Winter sale tops those 2019 numbers. And whether traffic to the blog starts rising over the summer.

Blog Status: 2020 Year in Review

The big event of the year — for the blog, of course — was switching to BlueHost back in April and then updating all of my social media posts and back-matter in my books to point to the URLs featuring the new domain.

Traffic-wise, August was the best month since the switch, then declined the next two months, rebounded slightly in November, then slipped back a little in December, ending down about 35% from that peak.

As I noted back in September, deciding to stop posting my promos on Sharesome only accounted for part of that decline, but was still a big decision I had to make in response to their censorship.

At the same time, I haven’t completed a new book since republishing “Into Another World,” so that’s also a factor. “Package Deal” is still my work-in-progress, I’ve just been stuck on writing a couple major scenes for it, including the ending, trying to get the tone right.

My creativity was another victim of 2020 stress, in the end.

Here’s to 2021 being better, for all of us!!
